We do hope you will all take a short drive around Bennett Valley to see the results of our Fall Workday! There were neighbors and students from Sonoma State University working together pruning, raking, mulching, painting and generally tidying our lovely area. There was a large group along Yulupa Avenue near Galvin Park, another on Bethards Drive near Safeway heading toward Bennett Valley Road, in Creekside Park, along Summerfield Road and in Sierra Creek and Strawberry School and Park.

We do hope you will consider joining us for our Spring Workday. The date will be announced soon.

Once again, a dedicated group of Bennett Valley residents gathered together to make a difference in our adopted areas. If anyone drove along the roads where we were working, you saw an amazing amount of debris and busy people. We were happy to welcome new faces to the effort and are looking forward to seeing them again at our Spring Workday! Although the day was sunny, it was one of the hottest days of our “Summer” this year, but this wonderful group got the job done. We offer our thanks for all who worked and those who donate for materials and those who work throughout the year to make all this possible. We can all be proud of the way our neighborhood comes together in this effort. A GIANT THANK YOU TO ALL!

Summerfield Road saw serious power equipment make short work of an unsightly area, creating more work for those who cleaned behind them and walked large tarps to a waiting debris box. Others worked behind the sidewalks making it pleasant to walk along Summerfield. Another group concentrated on the planted areas and we added a donated birdhouse to the northernmost median.

Alistair Bleifuss, Santa Rosa city creek steward, led a combined force of our wonderful Cub Scout Pack 55 (and parents) and many others. He was also joined by members of Climate Protection Club of Santa Rosa High School and we welcome them! They made a huge difference in the Strawberry Park area and along the creek.

Bethards Drive to Bennett Valley Road scattered along that very long corridor and continued their amazing transformation of what was once a sadly neglected area. They also have plans for another workday in the area. Keep your eyes tuned when you drive that way.

Creekside Park neighbors removed huge amounts of overgrown vegetation, dead tree limbs, and skirted low hanging branches-enough to fill a large debris bin!

Thanks to volunteers at Strawberry School where work on the front yard is now in progress. Bark is being spread, weeds are being pulled, and low hanging tree branches have been removed.

Along with the invaluable help of Tom Lococo, Ed Buonacorsi, and Alistair Bleyfuss (employees of the city of Santa Rosa), we cannot commend you volunteers, and those who make donations, enough. Your spirit and generosity energizes us all! We hope that you feel pride in what you have helped to accomplish which will in turn be enjoyed by all who drive/ride/walk these scenic corridors/creek spaces. We hope that you will feel 'ownership' of these areas and will want to continue to maintain them either on your own (as you see a need) or with our group.

The threat of rain didn't dampen the spirit of our hearty Bennett Valley Vision volunteers today. Our loyal Cub Scout Pack 55 and parents joined Alistair Bleifuss, Santa Rosa city creek steward in caring for Arroyo Sierra Creek as they have for the past five years. Other major projects included weeding, pruning, and spreading mulch along Bethards Drive, mowing and pruning at Creekside Park, and weeding and pruning on the Summerfield corridor. Although these areas are looking so nice, we were amazed at the amount of work and debris that was generated.

We thank today's volunteers and ALL of the volunteers who work throughout the year, those who have made the donations to make this possible, and the city of Santa Rosa, especially Tom Lococo.

For those of you who were unable to join us today, we hope to see you in the Fall.

FALL WORK PARTIES IN BENNETT VALLEY

In addition to Bennett Valley Vision's recent fall clean up day, pro active neighbors recently organized two more work parties in Bennett Valley. New trees were planted on Bethards making this visual corridor even more attractive! Other big jobs at that site included weeding, spreading mulch, pruning, and fixing broken fencing. A trellis was installed on Yulupa, adjacent to the fence north of Exchange Bank, and planted with roses. Lavender and day lilies were added to the side walk plantings.

How very fortunate we are to live here! It's such a beautiful part of Santa Rosa but even more special because of our caring community.

FALL WORK DAY SEPTEMBER 19, 2009

Thanks to you, many of our long - term goals are being accomplished. When we started, four and a half years ago, our hope was to make Bennett Valley a little nicer place to live. Starting small, we began planning and tidying the Summerfield medians and Creekside Park. Next, work focused on including Yulupa Avenue. Now, volunteers are ready to plant after their hard work of preparing the area along Bethards Drive from Yulupa to Bennett Valley Road.
It has been a true community effort, and the community has come out. The city of Santa Rosa has supported us every step of the way. Neighbors have stepped forward and continue to do so throughout the year, both financially and with sweat equity. Cub Scout pack 55 are loyal stewards of Arroyo Sierra Creek. The LDS Missionaries bring youthful energy and enthusiasm with them and renew our spirits.

FALL CLEAN UP 2008!

Volunteers braved the threat of rain and came out to work on Saturday, Oct. 4th, at four sites. A group worked on finishing pruning and weeding along Summerfield Road. Our loyal cub scout pack showed up in force, along with other volunteers, to help Alistair Bleifuss in Arroyo Sierra creek and the Strawberry School park area.

We welcomed new Bennett Valley neighborhoods! Bethards area residents pulled weeds, pruned, spread mulch,picked up litter, and removed graffiti. NABV hosted their first work day weeding, digging out the area in front of the Hwy 12 corridor and mulching.

Special thanks to the Bennett Valley UPS store for printing our brochures, which helps us to spread the word. Many thanks for donations made to our debit accounts for the purchase of planting materials. The city of Santa Rosa supports Bennett Valley Vision and we are sincerely grateful.

Weather permitting, there will be a work day along Summerfield Road to spread mulch on Saturday, Oct. 25th.

Looking forward to seeing you and hearing your ideas for our spring work day at our first meeting of 2009 on February 4th.

SPRING CLEAN UP 2008

Dear Friends, Bennett Valley's sparkle really is a little brighter today! Five teams of Spring Clean Up volunteers painted fences, mowed, pruned, weed whacked, and spread mulch; one of those teams removed litter and brush from a lengthy stretch of Arroyo Sierra Creek. Strawberry School children, scouts, neighbors, non BV residents, and high school students banded together in the spirit of community to make a difference here. BV residents not present yesterday, work throughout the year maintaining our adopted sites while other residents have made donations to a debit account at Sequoia Landscape for purchase of mulches and other needed supplies. Our BV Starbucks donated morning coffee, TurGreen provided help, and the city of Santa Rosa has continually supported Bennett Valley Vision from its inception. We residents are truly blessed to live in a community like this and are most grateful to all who have contributed in any way of support and help.

On Monday, October 29, 2007, BENNETT VALLEY VISION and VISION volunteers Kathy and John Dennison were honored by the Board of Community Services and the Merit Awards Committee. Mayor Bob Blanchard is seen here presenting the awards. In addition to being active members of BVV, the Dennisons have volunteered at Food for Thought for 18 years and the rural cemetary.

Bethards Bridge Cleanup

Age and graffiti were a constant eye sore on this main thoroughfare...

Thanks to the hard work of the BVV team, the bridge got a facelift!

Bennett Valley prides itself in being family friendly and a great place for children to grow up. The team reached out to Strawberry Elementary School and initiated a poster campaign to encourage and promote the vision of BVV in concert with Sonoma Ridge Apartments to "stash the trash."
